Having social media on phones, an easily accessible tool in today’s world, makes it a lot easier to communicate and talk to people. However, with how affixed teens are with their phones, communication in person becomes very different when their devices are taken away.
Due to the reason that communication through their phones is increasing, the comfort levels of talking to people in person is decreasing. This can be seen using data collected through an anonymous survey shown below.

The following video is about teens who were part of an experiment where they lost access to their phones for a week.
The teacher of these students noticed behavioral changes, some being more outgoing and some being reserved. It really shows how having devices constantly at disposal can affect the engagement of individuals in their daily lives. The students noticed that they talked to more people and paid attention to others more which is not surprising. Another anonymous survey done on high school students showed that nearly all students find their phones to be a distraction.

This experiment really solidifies the ideas that having phones and social media as the main communication tool negatively impacts the way teens and most people with phones participate in social scenarios.
